It always has been, and always will be, you versus you in this life. Life is a mental and physical test to see just how much you can endure to become the person you desire to be. There will be obstacles that impede your progress. Expect and plan for those obstacles. There will be doubters, non-believers, people who tell you no, people who hurt you, people who expect you to fail, people who put you down and tell you: “you don’t have what it takes.” This is all simply a part of life. Embrace it and set yourself up to successfully work through it. There is undoubtedly one tool that is fundamental to you creating the life you envision.
When you run into one or many of these things that seemingly hold you back, don’t think “why me” or “If it just wasn’t for this or that, then I’d be where I want to be in life right now,” or the infamous “well once this is over or I get past this obstacle, then will be a good time to take action…” These are all toxic thoughts that will only hold you back from reaching your goals. The single most powerful tool in creating the life you envision is learning to become self-sufficient. When you get to a point where you realize that you can obtain things on your own and you don’t depend on anyone else for help, doors will begin to open up for you.
Diversify Your Efforts
The average millionaire has seven streams of income, and it’s no coincidence. The majority of people who have been able to establish themselves as a millionaire realized that accomplishment by taking control of their lives. They don’t sit around and wait for someone to make their dreams happen, rather, they become self-sufficient and go out and do whatever it takes to get whatever it is that they want. Ideas to diversify your efforts include: investing in securities (i.e. stocks and bonds), running an e-commerce store, selling real estate periodically, becoming an Amazon affiliate, selling your services for part-time freelance work on platforms like Upwork, starting your own business, or even participating in a part-time or full-time job to raise capital to input into your other endeavors.
Circle of Influence
You become the average of the five people that you spend the most time with. It is of dire importance that you take control of your circle of influence. You may have people in your life who support you, and I really hope you do, but you also probably have people in your life who unknowingly or even knowingly serve as impediments to you reaching your full potential. Environmental factors also play a key role in influencing one’s thoughts and actions. Regardless of any negativity that flows through or near your life, you have an obligation to yourself to drown it out. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals, people with goals, people who know what they want, and people who are there to support you, not pray on your downfall.
Success Through You
No matter anyone’s personal rendition of success, to reach what you’re setting out to do, it is imperative that you break free of the merciless grip of uncertainty. Next time someone tells you no, or that you can’t do something, hear them out and take note of the points they make. DO NOT, let it stop you. Always allow and appreciate external opinions and thought processes, and don’t be afraid to pivot your thinking. In fact, they may be bringing to light something that you neglected to include in your plan. If you are told that you will fail due to “this list of reasons” and you have addressed all of them or find them argumentative at best, then you have to succeed. However, the second you let external voices become more powerful than your own voice inside is the moment you lose control and lose the battle in creating the life you envision.
Self-sufficiency is the epitome of inevitable growth. Destroy all uncertainty through proper planning and mindset, and you are almost certain to reach whatever your idea of success may be.
